Jambo & Habari from Child of Mercy Children’s Home!
Dear Friends and Supporters,
We take this humble initiative to write to you today, hoping you are doing well. Here at Child of Mercy, we are navigating a period of transition as we await a final court ruling concerning our current premises. While the uncertainty of having to vacate has brought some anxiety and stress to the children who call this place home, we are doing everything we can to keep them feeling safe, stable, and loved.
Amidst these challenges, our hearts are full of hope. We are working diligently to look for funds so we can continue constructing our new home on the piece of land generously bought for us by Madam Kathryne, who truly saw our need for a permanent, secure home.
Celebrating Our Champions & Education
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to our dear coordinator, Madam Alvarez. She has been working tirelessly to ensure our children have access to quality education by introducing sponsorship programs to her friends and network.
To every single individual who provides school sponsorships: thank you. Because of you, both the children residing at the home and those in our wider community can continue to learn and thrive. As Nelson Mandela once said:
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
Major Milestone: From High School to University!
Speaking of education, we have some absolutely thrilling news to share that has our entire home bursting with pride. Four of our children have just successfully completed their high school education!
Even more exciting, three of them have already received admissions to the University of Science and Technology in different parts of Kenya! Seeing our children overcome challenges and transition into higher education to pursue science and technology is a dream come true. We are so incredibly proud of their hard work, resilience, and dedication.
This milestone is living proof of what happens when a community comes together. To everyone who has sponsored a uniform, paid school fees, or offered a word of encouragement: you helped pave the way to university for these bright minds.
To keep you connected to their journeys, we will be sending quarterly progress reports and school results. The children are also excited to connect with you through short videos, letters, and upcoming Christmas cards!
Current Essential Needs
Like many, the current economic climate has hit us hard. Because we depend entirely on the kindness of well-wishers and friends to cater to the daily, basic needs of our children, we want to share our transparent monthly operational costs for these essentials.
If you are able to support toward any of these specific areas, it would make a massive difference:
| Essential Item | Monthly Cost (KES) |
|---|---|
| Food Supplies | 66,000 |
| Firewood (Cooking) | 18,000 |
| Electricity | 15,000 |
| Drinking Water | 4,820 |
| Gas | 4,500 |
| Sanitation & Hygiene | 4,000 |
| Medical | 9,000 |
Any support toward these essential needs allows us to keep focusing on what matters most: the happiness, education, and safety of our children.
Thank you for walking this journey with us.
With gratitude,
The Child of Mercy Family
